The speaker at the 2004 Retreat was Elward Ellis, a former member of Blacknall and now senior pastor of Crossroads Presbyterian Church of Stone Mountain, Georgia. Pastor Ellis’ calling has taken him from Raleigh, where he studied history at Shaw University (during which time he attended Blacknall) and across 14 countries and four continents. He was accompanied by his wife, Dr. E. Dawn Swaby-Ellis, a physician and faculty member of the Emory University School of Medicine.
The Series he presented was entitled, “When Abba’s Children Pray”, an exposition of Matthew 6:8-15, focusing on the integrated Christian life.
“We will look at the assumptions behind the instructions Jesus gives His disciples and the implication for us as Christians, who are exhorted to live as Children of the King in an ordinary world, a life that interconnects faith, prayer, worship, and mission.”
