The speakers at the 2007 Retreat were Bob and Betty Henderson. As former pastor of Blacknall during the turbulent ’60’s, Bob spoke of the role of “desperate prayer in times of impossibility.”
The theme for the weekend was, “The Pilgrimage of Prayer: Praying against the impossible.”
“Our calling to be followers of Christ is humanly impossible from the start: to be conformed to the image of God’s Son and partakers of the divine nature. Our calling is in the context of a world in which the god of this world and all the spiritual forces of darkness have awesome presence and power. We are called to turn men from darkness to light, from the power of Satan to God. All are impossible humanly.
In the midst of all of this, God has bound himself to prayer and has promised to do impossible things — but only if we ask. He calls upon us to pray at all times in the Spirit with all prayer and supplication. So in the face of our impossible calling, we are given prayer by which to accomplish that which is humanly impossible. At this year’s retreat, we shall together explore, discuss, and engage this dynamic necessity, this ‘trustiest weapon of all’.”
